I was born in London, but grew up in Jamaica where I studied business and developed my love of dance. Dance is what introduced me to Carnival and specifically Notting Hill Carnival and I have not looked back since 1991, enjoying the privilege of being Carnival Queen for the Yaa Asantewaa Carnival Band for many years and now working as Chair of CAMF to assist other organisations to develop their dream within the Carnival Genre.

I am an Independent Creative Organizer of Carnival Arts, Voluntary Director, Carnival Consultant, Social Entrepreneur, Freelance Artist, Event Organiser, Stewarding/Security Operative & Administrator.

As a Director of De Core UK and Chair of CAMF , I am fulfilling my role to be of service to the Carnival community to the best of my ability with integrity and Love.

BARBARA NYARKO
BARBARA NYARKOTreasury; NHCL Advisory Council Rep.
Barbara is her ancestors dream, although born in Newcastle she spent her formative years in Ghana, West Africa. This is where her love for carnival developed and became imprinted on her heart.

This led to the creation of her family mas band – Mas Africa. The band has been participating in Nottinghill carnival since 2005.

In 2019 she organised the inaugural annual Kumasi Carnival in Ghana, bringing the diaspora community to Africa for the year of return which commemorated 400 years since the first enslaved Africans.

Barbara is a designer and a recent LLB Law graduate who prides herself in showcasing her rich cultural heritage through her costumes. She is a big advocate for mental health, and uses her Mas making workshop to create opportunities for children and parents to de-stress, express themselves and develop skills through creative arts at her Community Youth Group summer family workshops.

Barbara is the treasurer for CAMF and here to assist CAMF to preserve its legacy.
