Carnival Arts and Mas Foundation UK – Connecting Culture, Communities and Creatives through Carnival
By Justin Thomas
Chair of the Carnival Arts and Mas Foundation (CAMF)
At the Carnival Arts and Mas Foundation (CAMF), we are embracing a new era — one where the spirit of carnival not only celebrates our traditions but also actively connects cultures, communities, and creatives in dynamic and lasting ways.
As Chair, I believe that our mission is to place connection at the heart of everything we do. Carnival has always been about more than spectacle; it is a living, breathing expression of history, innovation, and unity. By actively strengthening the links between different communities and empowering creatives across generations, we can ensure that carnival remains a powerful force for positive change.
An essential part of this evolution is building and maintaining strong partnerships within the carnival ecosystem. Our evolving relationship with the Carnival organisers including but not limited to NHCL and CVT reflects this spirit of collaboration.
I believe that by working closely together, we can share knowledge, support artistic excellence, and collectively raise the profile of carnival arts across the UK and beyond.
Our goal is simple but vital: to create spaces where creativity thrives, culture is celebrated, and every community feels seen, heard, and valued through the vibrant lens of carnival. I believe that when we collaborate — when we share ideas, resources, and dreams — everyone wins. Carnival becomes stronger, more creative, and even more inclusive.
